Europe's surge of nineteenth-centry imperialism Essay

Europe's flood of nineteenth-centry government - Essay Example One such clash was among China and Britain which as indicated by Marchant (42), was known as the Anglo-Chinese opium wars. In this paper, I am demonstrating that I concur with Marchant’s suggestions in her article that the new colonialism in Europe was driven by values integral to the ascent of dynamic patterns, for example, the Enlightenment. In their exchange dealings with China, the British accepted that unhindered commerce was a method of making riches for all countries. This would, thusly, lead to another world request that kept up harmony at all levels. The Chinese, then again, accepted that there was no chance to get in which exchange could make harmony for humankind since they had perceived how the Ming line crumbled because of doctrinarism (Marchant 42). The mentalities of the British depended on Enlightenment since they accepted that both common plans and profound changes could improve the human culture. They saw manners by which in reverse countries could access progress regardless of whether war was included. They attempted to apply this on China yet since China had various perspectives, a war emitted. This was an ideological war that originated from contrasts in the conviction of the two countries in facilitated commerce. Britain’s contribution in new dominion as appeared in the manner in which it managed China depended on four standpoints. These standpoints were the aftereffect of Enlightenment thoughts that had advanced over the previous century. The main standpoint was that God just helped those individuals who could plan something for improve their circumstance. The subsequent one was that both strict changes and mainstream plans set up in business, science, instruction, and enactment were a way improving the economic wellbeing of humankind (Marchant 42). The third viewpoint was that it was the duty of those countries that had just experienced edification to impart their plans to in reverse countries, for example, China to support them

But those short-term, high-cost no credit check loans aren’t the only thing that can suck your bank account dry.Scams and fraudsters, for instance, have been around since the dawn of human civilization, and they are remarkably good at keeping up with all the latest trends and innovations. Once they get their hands on your money, you’re pretty much cooked.Still, there are certain warning signs that almost all potential cons have in common. If you learn to identify them, it’ll put you one step ahead. Irreversible transactions.Justin Lavelle, Chief Communications Officer for  BeenVerified.com (@BeenVerified):“Asking for irreversible transactions such as a money wire, prepaid gift cards, or cash. A reputable person/company will bill you professionally and through normal means.”2. Typos.Brian Gill, Chairman and former CEO of  Gillware Data Recovery  (@gwdatarecovery):“When an email from a company has spelling errors or bad grammar, it should be another warning sign. Large companies have copywriters and editors who make sure email communications are grammatically correct.”Justin Lavelle:“A letter or email with a well-known logo on it may not be what it seems. Check it carefully for typos, and compare it to anything you have received legitimately from the company in the past. If it looks right, double check with a call to the real company just to be completely sure.”3. Unsecured websites.Monica Eaton-Cardon,  owner, co-founder, and COO of Chargebacks911 (@chargebac ks911):NEVER make purchases at a website with an ‘http’ URL. Only make purchases on websites that are ‘https’. The ‘s’ indicates a higher level of security.  Nowadays, all reputable eCommerce sites are https, including the major airlines, banks, stores, hotels and retail chains.“If you receive an email solicitation to use at a website that’s ‘http,’ be extra careful.  It could be a scam, and your data could be at a heightened risk of vulnerability.4. Requests for personal or financial info.Justin Lavelle:“Never, ever, ever give out personal or sensitive information over email or the phone unless you are one hundred percent certain about the company. Your own bank is different from an unknown company trying to get your info to do anything they want with.Adnan Raja, Vice President of Marketing for Atlantic.Net (@atlanticnet):“Be wary of any phishing emails who may try to exploit you to gain access to your accounts. Avoid giving out your medical information ov er email or on the phone, unless you have already signed an authorization to do so.“If available, always sign up for multi-factor authentication for online portals, which sends a pin code to your phone as a secondary security measure anytime you are trying to login to your account.”5. Upfront payments.Justin Lavelle:“Unsolicited offers that require payment up front. Usually, these can seem legit, but a quick internet search will tell you everything you need to know. Be even more cautious if you cannot find them online.”6. Aggressive sales tactics.Kyle Kroeger, Founder of Millionaire Mob (@millionairemob2)“Its no surprise that a scammer is going to try to sell you hard and fast on their hypothetical product/service. If you receive aggressive sales tactics upfront and after you buy, be aware this might be a scam. Aggressive sales tactics include spammy behavior and spammy email addresses.”7. Surprises in your inbox.Brian Gill:“When checking your email, stay suspicious an d on alert. Often times a fraudulent email will try to scare you by saying something was stolen or that you’ve won a prize. Rather than clicking on links from your email, just go directly to the actual website and sign in how you normally would.”8. Making you the money middleman.Justin Lavelle:“If you are being told to deposit money, and then to withdraw it and send it somewhere else, that is a huge red flag. Chances are, you are involved in illegal activity. There is no reason to be handling payments meant for another party.”9. Weird money requests from friends, family, or colleagues.Aletta Tibbets (@aletta), Founder Principal of  Eos Financial Planning LLC:“It’s increasingly popular to spoof email from a boss or colleague saying they need you to wire money or provide information right away. The best policy is to never rely on emails for this sort of directive. If they give some reason why they can only communicate via email, that’s a huge red flag.“If the situatio n is one that involves someone you personally know, find a way to make voice contact with them before proceeding, or ask a question or two that only they would know.”Brian Gill:“If you receive an email where the “To” field is left blank, it’s a clear signal that it didn’t come from the perceived sender. Also, if the email begins with “Hello” but doesn’t actually state your name, that’s another red flag.”10. Threats.Justin Lavelle:“If someone is threatening you into giving them money, it is most definitely not on the up and up. Professional business and collectors do not threaten you.”11. Fake online stores.Monica Eaton-Cardon:“During the months of March and April, you might receive highly-tempting emails from travel sites that promise amazing savings. Some of these emails could even appear to come from reputable, trustworthy companies.  But beware: Fraudsters will design email offers and create fake websites that look very similar to legitimate stores. T hey do this to ‘phish’ for your financial information, so they can steal from your bank account.“Consumers should proceed with caution and use common sense: Is the URL misspelled?  Is it http and not https? When you Google the site and/or the offer, are people warning you of fraud?  Are the images low-resolution? Does the verbiage include spelling errors and grammatical mistakes? Is the offer too good to be true?  And is it a website that you’ve never visited before? These are the telltale signs of a fake online store.  Delete the email, and do not submit your financial information.  It isn’t worth the risk.”12. Claiming to be from the government.Justin Lavelle:“Anyone working for the government is required to provide identification AND verification of that identity. If someone refuses to do this or does not check out, it is a scam.”13. If it seems too good to be true … it probably is.Aletta Tibbets:These are your Nigerian email scams, Craigslist buyers that of fer to pay you extra, online job offers. When these arise people should default to the assumption that it’s a scam and do a lot of research before giving out any personal information. Your state regulatory agencies are one good place to check with if you’re not sure about something.Kyle Kroeger:“If you see something that sounds like its hard to believe its real, this is one of the most common signs of a scam. Its your money. Maslow, Durkheim, And Freud - 1737 Words

Weber, Durkheim, and Freud each offered a fascinating account of the role of religion in modern life. Weber and Durkheim specifically asked how to act ethically in a world of fragmenting values. Freud largely bypassed ethics, looking instead at how the individual utilizes values in negotiating pleasures, pains, and disappointments. While these three thinkers range from attention to the individual (Freud) to the social (Durkheim), and from a general, primitivistic (? Do you mean that he looked at â€Å"primitive religions† – the reason he did that was he theorized all aspects of religion could be traced by to the most primitive religion thus the elementary forms of religious life) view of religion (Durkheim) to a very specific, well-articulated one (Weber), they all share attention to the role of rules, the place of the sacred, the source of religious authority, and the value (or lack thereof) of religion in procuring happiness in modern life. (do you mean source of r eligious authority being human beings? Socially constructed? As for happiness, only Freud articulated it that way. Both Durkheim and Weber were concerned with conflict (Durkheim as a pathology and Weber as a core of modernity and modern institutions) For Weber, the Protestant work ethic reflects control of self and environment through calculating reason. In Freud’s view, our ideals of omniscience and omnipotence, reflecting our desire to avoid pain and procure what we need, are projected onto the deity. F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby - 1367 Words

Money, commonly associated with happiness and success, is deceiving because it doesn t necessarily breed enjoyment at all. Lorraine Hansberry s A Raisin in the Sun and F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby examine the difference between wealth and appreciation of life. Lorraine Hansberry explains this with Walter, a negro father in a poor family who seeks more money than is realistic to bring happiness into the family. Fitzgerald uses the character Jay Gatsby to show that wealth doesn t imply success or happiness. Both characters occupy strikingly different roles in their stories, yet decently portray money s impact on life. In The Great Gatsby and Raisin in the Sun, wealth is made to seem as the key to happiness, but, in essence,†¦show more content†¦Additionally, near the end of Gatsby s experience, the narrator notes after hoping for a call from Daisy that No telephone message arrived...I have an idea that Gatsby himself didn t believe it would come, and perhaps he no lo nger cared (Fitzgerald pg. 161) Before his death, Gatsby realizes his loneliness, and the readers realize that all the wealth he had has no impact on his happiness later on. Additionally, at his grand parties, Gatsby was never seen by the attendees . This suggests Gatsby permitted anyone to come to help him not feel alone. However, it was only that opposite at Gatsby s eventual funeral in which only three people attended. The funeral is an excellent representation of Gatsby s loneliness all along. Diane Telgen in her examination of The Great Gatsby mentions Nick characterizes himself as someone who understands Gatsby better, who wants to set the record straight, and who sides with Gatsby against the world that made him up and then deserted him (Telgen 79). The desertion she touches on refers to the funeral s attendance and how the party s attendees left Gatsby, and how Nick, the narrator, was essentially the only person to want to get to know the man. What Gatsby sought was essentia lly out of reach; he had spent time acquiring money in illegal ways to try stealing the girl of his dreams, but in the process ruined his social life. His focus on money and his love was so

Women Are Cunning And Beast Like From The Waist They Are...

With a riotous appetite. Down from the waist they are centaurs, Though woman all above. But to the girdle do the gods inherit; Beneath is all the fiend’s. There’s hell, there’s darkness [4.6.121-125] Why call women centaurs? Aren’t Centaurs male? This use of the word makes the passage lose all of its intended meaning. To justify the use of this word, readers jump to the easy conclusion that Lear is trying to say that women are cunning and beast-like or that analyzing this may be going a little too deep. But, if King Lear chooses to overlook the entire picture that surrounds centaurs, there will be those who choose to question his choice of words and his credibility; which weakens his plea for pity and tarnishes his image as the wronged father. By referring to his daughters as centaurs, he fails to take the history and the entire construct of centaurs and creates a very distorted image, unintentionally proving to himself and the audience that he is weakened, scared and undeserving of sympathy. With the use of one word, he has tarnished his image as a king and a wronged protagonist on many levels. To start, the history and etymology of the word needs to be taken into consideration. According to the OED, a centaur referred to â€Å"A member of a people of ancient Thessaly renowned for their skill with horses†. The OED also mentions that that the Greeks coined this term to refer to a partnership that was not familiar to them; a partnership between man and horse that would become
